Been posting this week as I have a painful tender breast,in one place.GP said he could feel thickening along a duct and has referred me for a mammogram,he thinks it is probably a blocked duct but wants to be sure.I felt not too worried,in that i thought it felt like a blocked duct when I was feeding, but it isn't clearing-I have tried to massage it but this is tricky as I am scared of the pain and I also can't feel the actual lump. When DD feeds it feels as though a duct may be unblocking but it still hurts afterwards. It has been going on for nearly a week and now I am getting really worried,in case the reason that it isn't clearing is because there is a more sinister lump there causing the duct to block up.I also have misgivings about a mammogram when bf,is it ok to do that ? My GP is not very clued up about breastfeeding.

Sounds like mastitis. I had it really badly and got flu like symptoms then started shaking and convulsing and ended up being hospitalised and put on an antibiotic drip. A couple of clueless doctors told me to give up BFing but I'd done my research and when they transferred me to a bigger hospital the doc said I was right and to continue feeding, gently massaging it (warm flannel helps with this) Also savoy cabbage leaves (yes really!) inside your bra are meant to do wonders

I don't feel fluey, and there is no redness or anything on the breast-GP did give me anti-biotics in case it got worse over the weekend (I saw him Friday)Should I take them?
