Hi ladies

Im sure this has been asked a million times before but i need some experience or tips or any info really on making up formula feeds in advance for the day.

My DS is 4 months and have always made each bottle when needed according to the formula box and this really hasnt been a problem for us as hes been feeding 4hrly since 6weeks and have the bottles ready for when he is.
When we go out i take a ready to use carton and sterile bottle or make up a feed just beforehand and use within 2hrs.

We are going away in 3wks and making feeds when needed isnt possible. Also feeds are getting more unstable as weaning gets closer.

Ive heard allsorts of theories of what people do and used to do.
Id be grateful if u could share yours

Thanks x

Hi, I know this is against the current guidelines but when we had ds 2 ys ago we'd daily sterilise bottles and fill with the correct amount of boiled water and leave to cool, then add the formula powder from our dispenser when out and about. Never, ever had a problem doing this ie no upset stomachs. I know that the manufacturers say you should only ever add formula to boiled water above 70* to kill any germs, but we'd rarely do this and ds was fine.

What i did might not be current guidelines either (10y ago), but i used to make all my bottles up in advance, after i put ds down for the night. Ds was on about 8 feeds a day, so i would sterilise the bottles, boil the kettle, pour it in bottles, then add the formula, put the lids on, then leave the bottles to cool, then put them in the fridge, ready for the next day. Back then the guidelines were a made up feed could be kept in the fridge for 24hours, however i dont know if you can do that nowadays?
But i did this from day one, until he stopped taken bottles, and ds was fine, never had any problems because of this. Hope this helps you.
