Help, one boob is going mad, how do I fix it?!

Help, DD is nearly 8 weeks now and BF has been going great up till now (she is our second and has taken to it well), but the last few nights I have had trouble with getting very engorged/lumpy boobs during the night - especially the right one. She is only feeding once or twice in the night now but sometimes I get woken up by my boobs getting quite uncomfortable before she is even hungry (it's not a problem during the day though normally).

Now the right boob seems to have gone completely mad, it is really full and uncomfortable even though I wouldn't normally be feeding DD again until at least 1.30 or so - she usually has a dreamfeed before I go to bed, but we have been giving a bottle of expressed milk for that, as she won't take it from me when she's asleep. So no idea why my body thinks I suddenly need loads of milk now... and why it's all on one side!

To make things worse, at the last few feeds today it seemed like DD was a bit "off" that side (even before it got so engorged), she did take some but kept fussing and crying when on that side. So that probably hasn't helped. But I'm not sure what to do now to fix it - if I express too much or keep giving her that side first, I'm worried it'll just encourage even more milk on that side? Can anyone advise the best way to "calm down" that breast without encouraging it to get even more lopsided? Thank you...

I have been getting this with feeding ds2 where one boob gets really engorged and quite sore every now and then. I just encourage him to feed off that engorged first then a little on the less engorged breast, until it's empty or should i say you get that soft empty feeling.

It takes about 24 hours for it to get back to normal boobs and the engorged one is sore for a few days. I'm not sure why it happens tho. It never happened with ds1 in 13m? Crazy breasts.

Could you express a little to make the breast less solid and then get dd to feed off of it until it's less full and sore?

I would like to know why it happens, by the time i post this i'm sure we'll know!

Also in the early days when my milk was coming in and my breast were engorged I would freeze breast pads and pop them in my bra they are great.

Well DS used to prefer one boob, but not to the point where they got really mismatched; and DD was quite happy on either side up till now! But now one is seriously about twice the size of the other Really not sure how to ease it without making it worse in the long term!
