Best feed to replace with ebm bottle?

DS won't take a bottle of ebm and I stupidly gave up trying when he was about 3m (he would take an ounce or two after a lot of yelling)

I think the time has come to try again (he's 5.5m)

Which feed do people think is the best one to try it with? He breastfeeds roughly at 7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm and 6pm.

He's hungriest at 7am but I don't really want to replace that one as my boobs are bursting then!

Hi. Poor you! I know exactly what you're going through with this as I went through it twice with my 2 girls, now 6 and 3. First born point blank refused bottle of anything and it didn't matter which feed we tried she would not take it. Advice is to replace the feed that they will be most hungry at. Probably that 7am one you want to keep unfortunately. Can dad try while you express? Then baby isn't associating smell of you with breastfeed either. This really helped us as all the crying used to upset me when I knew I could just stop it by feeding her myself, but hubbie was a bit tougher and she didn't go quite as hysterical with him! In the end we just had to go cold turkey and eventually she took the bottle- had no choice as I was going back to work when she was 5 months. I just expressed a bit of milk off whenever I could to avoid engorgement. 2nd daughter was a bit easier- think it helped that she was a bit older (7 mnths) and weaned too (if you have the option of waiting a bit longer) but still hard. We also used aptamil milk as advised it is the closest match to breast milk. Clare Byam-Cook's book- What to expect when you're breastfeeding has really good advice too. Good luck!

Hi Vic - yes, maybe we'll try that at the weekend. Good ideas there.

Thanks!

Vic - just wanted to say a huge thank you. We tried DS with a bottle last night and again this morning and he drank about 7 oz at each sitting, with not too much fuss at all! DH took over and you're right, it was much better when I left the room completely.

It's a real step forward; I'm not going back to work but it does mean I can go to my mates hen do in a couple of weeks' time!
