BF and D&V bug - advice needed

I'm just coming out of the other side of 12 hours of vomiting and diarrhea and getting back to being able to BF my 12wo DS (I know you're supposed to feed through illness, but was being violently sick every 15 mins, so wasn't feasible!)

I'm now OK - but a bit shaky and dehydrated (aching kidney kind of feeling). Can I take any kind of rehydration meds? (dioralyte or similar). I know someone has posted a link to what you can/can't take, but brain too mushy to find it! Not really eating properly yet, but able to keep fluids down.

My DS is fine - and enjoyed his night 'camping' out with my DH in the spare room (and thank god, he's happy to take a bottle), but I'm worried that the dehydration will affect my supply?

poor you! you can take oral rehydration solutions, and drink what ever you can - lucozade and lemonades are also good. Stick to a plain diet- toast, rice, stewed apple, banana (good for potassium replacement).

Your milk supply will be fine once you've started drinking again and bfing again.

I hope you feel better soon!
I had the same a few weeks back. I stayed in bed as much as possible, baby (3months) on one side and bowl (with lid) + wipes on the other.
I drank loads of fennel tea with sugar and a pinch of salt... after that we had 2 days of low supply with baby drinking non-stop and then it was fine again.
Had a lot of porridge made with water and bananas until I felt like eating properly again.

Thanks both - good call on the porridge, I'll give that a go. About to make a gentle expedition to buy rehydration stuff and Heinz Tomato soup as my other great cure all.

Unfortunately, Fennel is about the only thing I just can't bear - which is a real pain!
Luckily DS is having a good mood day, so I can probably get away with quite a lot of benign neglect - sofa and DVD box set here I come.

Luckily my supply is pretty good most of the time and I managed to express last night when I couldn't feed, so fingers crossed all will be OK...

You could try Rooibos tea with a pinch of salt and a teaspoon of sugar. Also it's easier to drink masses of water if it's lukewarm(just slop in some water from the kettle to warm it up).

I had this too, last week - quite vile. My husband & I had it at same time so were taking it in turns to hold 4 week old DD whilst other person throwing up. Can look back now as comedy moment but at the time was dreadful!

Dr said OK to take oral rehydration or lots of watered down fizzy sugary drinks.

My milk supply dropped dramatically about 24 hrs after I started being ill - had loads of well meaning advice about formula & water in a bottle. Luckily have friend who is midwife breastfeeding consultant in maternity unit, she said give nothing other than BMilk as this is best way to get supply back and to REST & RELAX....
My small person was a bit put out to find milk supply was not as she was accustomed so fed a lot more often and hey presto all back to normal within 48 hours.

Hope you feel better soon.
