Ok I need a little advice/support.
Sending myself bonkers with this.

DD was born prematurely at 34 weeks. Had EBM for 5 weeks (supply ran dry as I had a very stressful time of it but that is another story). She pooed after every feed, nice breast milk poo.
DD was discharged home from SCBU on SMA prem 2, developed immediate constipation. Waited it out as per advice of HV, doc etc but after 2 weeks, she began to really smell and so advised by hospital consultant to give lactulose.
Had huge disaster with lactulose, resulting in choking episode, spent night in hospital, consultant asked me if I had any allergies, I do and I have eczema. He discharged DD on Neocate milk (hypoallergenic stuff).

Constipation did not improve, we rode it out, thinking change in milk etc etc, gave water, lactulose.
Further choking episodes led to a diagnosis of reflux, and advised to put gaviscon in the milk. Constipation continued.
After 6 weeks spoke to a dietician who said change milk again to normal baby milk.

We started DD on Aptimil. Poo's immediately improved, still not normal baby poo, more like toothpaste.

About 4 weeks ago we were having serious feeding issues, DD was in a lot of pain, refusing milk etc. Took to A&E told reflux. Given Domperidone and Omeprazole.
Was pleased about Domperidone as can help with constipation. But constipation got worse not better. Seems as though reflux symptoms helped but now bringing her knees up when feeds, sometimes cries when farts.
Spoke to consultant on phone, he suggested going back to the Neocate ?lactose intolerance.

Does this sound like lactose intolerance? I don't think so. My reasons are it is actually not common and DD does not vomit or have diarrhoea, or rashes, or eczema etc etc.

Am I missing something?
Does anyone have a little one with a food intolerance/allergy and constipation.

By constipation i mean: very hard poos, oftern marble sized, occassional rabbit poo, like plasticine. Lactulose does help a little. I wouldn't be bothered by them if i thought DD was not bothered by them, but I think she is. Most often poos in middle of a feed, after great effort and the refuses to take any more.

Anyone any advice at all?
Going to see the consultant next week and need to be mentally prepared. At the moment just confused.

Also, DD is thriving.

thanks.
Sorry very long and stuff.

Oh poor you! Sounds like you are having a very stressful time of it

My first DD ended up moving onto formula at 4 months and also got very constipated. Some HV's suggest adding 1 extra fl oz of water to feed. Only 1 extra fl oz of water only NO MORE. Can be a controversial area this though, so perhaps check with your own HV or GP first. But I know it works as a short term solution for friends of mine.

I used to try just to offer cool boiled water at separate times to feeds or prune juice warmed a little. I also sometimes put brown sugar in some cool boiled water too. It all helps.

She sounds like she is suffering with wind bless her as well. So many ladies whose children are prescribed things for reflux find it constipates the baby so you're not alone.

You can buy something called Colief which you add to a feed if it is lactose intolerance. That always worth a try as well? But I suspect personally it's not lactose intolerance at all. But I maybe wrong.

Have you tried changing bottles to NUK or Dr Brown or something for wind issues?

No doubt some more mumsnetter will be along soon with their advice for you.

Thank you for replying. I'm just hoping that time will sort all this out. Don't think it is lactose intolerance, personally.

thanks again.x
