my ds is 5 wks old and I was wondering the same thing.

How long does it take you to express 3 oz? It takes me about 30 mins to get 1 oz!

I don't know about your child, but my ds feeds soooo munch and still takes a long time. It's getting me down so I'm trying to express to let my dh help out.

hope someone who has a clue will reply to you soon.

When DS was 5 weeks old I was expressing 4oz and feeding him every 3 hours. Used a Medela Swing electric pump and drank lots of water which helped. Took about 15-20 min to express that much. Now giving him 5oz EBM every 3.5 hours (he is 8 weeks now) - initially had to supplement with one bottle of formula per day but have been feeding him 100% EBM for the past week.

Some women find it very hard to express and certainly it's very difficult in those first few weeks as you might still be establishing supply. Have you tried kellymom for tips?

What about other ways of getting more sleep in the meantime? Sleeping during the day, co-sleeping, allowing a dh/p to do all the resettling and nappies in the night, bringing the baby to you etc.

It is hard in the first few weeks and they do feed and feed and feed. It's how they establish supply and develop so amazingly quickly.

3oz is actually quite a bit in terms of the size of a baby's tummy.

I hired an NCT pump and expressed 5oz today for a feed tonight but its taken 2 sessions and DS has been really unsettled in the breastfeeds that followed. I am starting to think I may as well just have the 1 night feed as formula as its so hard expressing with a toddler to look after too.

Every 2 hours in the night is killing me. Hate to say it but my last baby seemed so much more settled (had lots more fomula for lots of reasons) and I'm starting to worry about my supply/quality etc.

My dd fed every 2hrs day and night for the first 7 months. I know how hard it is.

How is your baby? Alert? Gaining weight? Nappies? Some babies do need to feed this frequently. He is so very, very small still.

Has anybody observed a feed for you? Have you seen a bfc?
