Best contraceptive while breastfeeding?

Apart from don't ever have sex again!

I definitely do not want to get pregnant possibly ever again after the trauma of DD's birth (7weeks ago).

We used to use natural family planning to avoid (and then achieve pregnancy) but since am breastfeeding am not willing to take the risk- I know breastfeeding subdues fertility but is not an effective enough contraceptive for me- not willing to risk getting pregnant again! We have gone back to using condoms but I had forgotten what a faff they were. I am really against the coil for various reasons so that isn't an option so gah its probably going to have to be a blimming hormonal method isn't it. I hate the pill and crap at remembering to take it plus don't like the idea of hormones going into breastmilk.

Although actually I might see if I can try the nuvaring as that seems a good option. www.nuvaring.com/Consumer/index.asp

What do other ladies do? I work in sexual health so I should have this all figured out! haha!

I'm interested in the replies to this too. I was hoping to get the implant (I too am crap at remembering to take the pill), but I am also worried about the effects of the hormones in breast milk.

Nuvaring looked good, but it says this on the website:
"If you have delivered a baby or had a second-trimester abortion
If you choose not to breastfeed, you may start NuvaRing® 4 weeks postpartum. Women who are breastfeeding should not use NuvaRing® until the child is weaned. Until then choose another form of birth control"

Oh poo!

Using condoms here too, as don't want use mini pill. Will watch this thread in hope...

i was breastfeeding and ol the mini pill when i got pg again. was mortified at the time but happy now i have dd2. am breastfeeding again and have been told that you can have the impant whilst breastfeeding.

contraceptive injection, implant, mini pill or mirena are all fine when breast feeding and no significant amounts of hormones get into breast milk - there is a newish mini pill called cerazette than is a bit better than the older mini pill for those prone to forgetting (only get 3 hrs flexibility with those for taking each day)

I'm a fan of mirena - know it's not good for everyone but for me very few side effects and very effective but if you do decide to go for another baby it doesn't affect fertility long term - my DC3 due in May is the proof
