Breast Feeding locations and iPhone App

Hi,

I'm considering creating a new iPhone app and would appreciate your feedback.

The idea is to have an app that would allow users to search for suitable places in their location that are breast feeding friendly.

Also, it will allow users to add places and give ratings etc.

Any comments for or against would be appreciated.

Regards

Graham

What if I don't want to spend a fiver on a coffee and a crap biscuit in order to breastfeed in the warm? And lots of cafes in London don't have loos but you only find that out after you've bought your expensive coffee, are desperate for a wee and have a poo-ey baby screaming for a feed..... Or you spend 20 minutes looking for a place that does tick the boxes by which point baby is eating off his own toes. (So much for demand feeding....).

The app could include a page about your rights as a BF-ing mum (i.e. you can breastfeed anywhere you damn well please) and some comedy lines to use against anyone who raises an eyebrow or suggests you should move somewhere more appropriate.

Why can't we all see this as something that could help us all have a more pleasant day rather than as a tool for making sure we keep ourselves and our knockers behind closed doors...??!

depends who decides where's breastfeeding friendly or not.

Just from the feel of them and the looks you get etc I've worked out where is and where isn't b/fing friendly in our town, for example, from the looks I got in costa coffee, i wouldn't feed in there again, but I'm sure the owners would say they are b/f friendly if asked IYSWIM.

randomrabbit · 26/03/2010 21:55

Can't you just breastfeed anywhere..why make it special iyswim ..its just normal surely..

Thanks for all your comments.

After some consideration, I'm now going to look at this from a different angle.

What about a baby change app, which includes a points based review, including things like baby change facilities etc, but including marks out of ten for breast feeding.

Sort of scoring it out of ten for various attributes?

Thanks

Graham

By the way, one of my previous iPhone apps is MP Expenses, have a look for it on the Apple AppStore.

Cheers

We can and should breastfeed anywhere - a breastfeeding app is a backwards step.

How about just good venues to go to with a baby? Score for all kinds of feeding not just breastfeeding - bottle feeding mums also need comfy places to sit down. Baby change facilities and nice loos, yes, also friendly staff who bring your coffee over because you don't have any free hands etc.

And given that more mums bottle feed than breastfeed, that would make your target market much larger, GeordieGit

I know I'm a bit late to this one but I think it's agreat idea! I've been searching for such an app. I'd like an app that shows where in the area I can find places that are suitable for nappy changing, breast feeding and can take a pram easily.... I understand all the points raiased above about we should be able to BF anywhere but reality isn't like that. My little one is a right noisy feeder and people will think I'm killing a chipmonk when I BF, that's without the mess I make when she wriggles off and I spray the place... so yes, to be somewhere that positively embraces BF would be nice. And, i want toilets that I can acces with a pram - not upstairs! And not too small that a pram can't fit inside... so please please please do this app...

What about "baby friendly", include baby shops, places to change, restaurants that have space for buggies and welcome little ones.

allstarsprincess · 10/11/2010 19:49

I wouldn't use it. In fact I would search out places that were not "friendly" just to be contrary and prove a point.

I would also not use a baby change app. I feel that rating somewhere is subjective, one persons clean is another persons filthy.

Funnily enough, with DS1 i breastfed wherever whenever. I suppose it would be useful to know where, when i was in town, there were places I could actually sit down.

My current dilemna is that my (still very young) DS2 won't latch so I'm having to pump and give him ebm. Sooo, if I want to leave the house for more than 3 hours, where can I go? Because I don't see myself ever being comfortable pumping in public. I know that the waterstones by Picadilly Circus has a baby changing/feeding room where i could go and pump for 10 minutes if I was in that nieghborhood -- but it would be good to know about similar rooms/spaces in other parts of town.

Hi there, wondering if such an app exists?? id find it really useful e.g. to locate spots when you are out and about with baby change facilities..
