Problems with breastfeeding - help and advice needed

My dd will be 4 weeks old on Friday. I was ebf for the first 5 days before discovering dd had jaundice. Had to take her to hospital where she was borderline for admission for treatment. The doctor said that I should go home and express to be sure she was getting enough milk. Since then I have been starting a feed on the breast, giving her a top up of expressed milk and then expressing myself. Dd falls asleep at the breast but when woken up with a nappy change will take up to 100ml of expressed milk. I have tried putting her back on the breast and on a couple of occasions she has settled after just being on the breast - and will last 2 and a half to 3 hours until the next feed. However, usually she seems to need the bottle. I'm just wondering how to encourage her to just feed from the breast. I'm tempted to just start expressing and give her all the milk from a bottle as it's just taking so long to feed her but had similar problems with dd1 and managed to get her feeding just from the breast-during the day at least. What should I do?? TIA

Feeding expressed milk exclusively sounds like a lot of work, you need some professional advice. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable that me will be along soon. Could you give the NCT breastfeeding helpline a call in the meantime? You don't have to be a member and the line is staffed by trained breastfeeding counsellors. Hope you can work it out.

You could try a supplemental nursing system

see here

...but agree that you probably need some professional help. Expressing is hard work and less efficient than an actual baby on the breast.

How is her weight btw?

Thanks for your reply crikeybadger.
boiledegg - I called the NCT line and the lady I spoke to was really nice and helpful. She suggested seeing a cranial osteopath which we are doing - have had 2 sessions it's difficult to say there's been much improvement but she's always been quite windy and I think that has improved. Thanks again.

The latest is that dd has reflux so she's on medication for that so fingers crossed it will help.
