DD picked up the winter vomiting at nursery last week and was over it in 24hours. DH has had a mild bug for what seems like ages.
DS (4 months) seemed to have got it this morning. Very loose, incredibly smelly nappy when he woke and vomited 7oz bottle immediately afterwards.
NHS direct told starvation/witholding milk isn't recommended any more and to give 1oz formula every hour. Have been doing this since 7am and he's keeping it down. Only one bad nappy since then. Gave 2oz at half eleven and again at half twelve. Does this sound ok - to gradually increase?
If he has had it seems he's been lucky and it's passing quickly. Hope so.

I used to dilute the formula to make it slightly more tolerable and then was guided by the reaction of my little one. Fluids are def required although milk can be quite heavy (for want of an official word) for them if they are suffering with a tummy bug. If he's keeping stuff down, then keep doing what you are doing. Overloading the system will see it ejected - as you know!

If he's a bit feverish, a dose of calpol (can he have that at 4 months? Can't remember, so check!) may help to bring the temp down a bit.

DD2 (9 months) has just finished having vomit bug. We tried reintroducing formula half-strength but still couldn't keep it down, so Doc told me to just give her Diaoralite for 24 hours - which worked a treat - and then start back on soya formula which has stayed down nicely.

She is now having dairy again which obvoiusly your lo can't yet (yoghurts and cheese) but we're going to use up the soya formula as it seems quite tolerable and I'm not going to waste it

Thanks for replies. Thankfully he's on the mend. He was up lots in the night for milk - no doubt making up for lost time, but is happily snoozing in pram now!
Will be glad for summer and end to all these horrible winter bugs.

When dd was 2 months old she had a tummy bug,my FIL (a retired GP) told me to cut down the formula so that it was more diluted, 1 part formula to 3 parts water or something until the vomitting stopped and diorehaa decreased(say for a day). Then to slowly increase the amount of formula until it was back to normal. DD would not have dioralite at all. It worked for us!
