Sorry this is a cross post with the child heath forum.

Basically if anyone's got any experience with infant gaviscon we'd appreciate your thoughts on how to give it to our son.

The thread with the details is here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/childrens_health/929791-How-to-give-infant-gaviscon

I posted this in this forum as it gets more visitors and people in the know might see it quicker.

Thanks,

Joe

Hi,

This is a bump for the thread at the top of this post - we've got a technique for giving the gaviscon to our 6wk old but his poos have now dried up completely for nearly a day (he previously pooed with every nappy without fail).

I've posted our technique on the thread in case it helps anyone else out in the future but now are faced with the spectre of constipation and would like to know if anyone's got any advice.

Thanks,

Joe

When one of my babies got constipation the DR told us to not give whole does of gaviscon.

It was a pain as DR's didn't really offer any help. One DR gave box and said just follow instruction. We figured 15mls at each feed was too much for baby so we gave half a dose at each feed.

Then her poos became less and although not "hard" were not like BM poos, so went back and saw another DR who said to drop back on dose at each feed or not give at each feed. So we decided to drop back to 5mls/feed. Would have adjusted it back up if reflux became more painful.

DR's were no help and left us to decide what to do.

Thanks, whilst I was at work he had superpoos so all is ok again.

Of note today was HV said no extra water as it would interfere with breastfeeding and to halve the dose to reduce the impact, so that's what we're doing.

He's asleep now and apparently has a big jobby in there for me to clean up when he wakes up.

I think we caught it in time to not get him seriously bunged up and so we've got away with it this time.

Thanks again everyone.

Joe
