Is there only one sort? Why isn't more formula organic?

we used ot use HIp organic before we found out about DS's allergy - not sure if theres anyothers though - i remeber having an argument in the hospital when DS was born - i couldnt b/f and i wanted him to have an organic formular and they only had SMA and Farleys i wasnt happy!

Babynat do an organic formula that I used with ds - you can buy it from various chemists or online, which I found v helpful. it's a French brand, comes in very lovely tins (still use them for crayons!) and the babyfood is all excellent as well.

I don't want to use it, I was just wondering

Sorry for not being clearer - thanks for the tips though!

I'm just surprised there's not more demand for organic formula, I suppose.

I don't know why more formula isn't organic either. I had to really look for it. Nanny comes in an organic formulation too. Dd gets non-organic breastmilk!

hunkermunker · 17/07/2005 14:56

Yes, I realise breastmilk isn't (often!) organic, but since so many people give their children organic cow's milk, I'd have thought it was logical to make formula organic too?

If you ate organic food for 5 years, then you could have your EBM certified organic, Hunker, then market it. Could make a fotune!

PMSL! maybe that's the way forward. Would be hunted down by the formula companies and put in breastfeeding m*fia prison though I think

There's Hipp and babynatt but yes, good question hunker, I don't know the answer!

Cow and gate do an organic formula too. I used it because the organic formulas were the only ones which didn't contain fish oil or algae (yuk). I thought that this was a totally inappropriate ingredient for a newborn and as it was just 1 feed a day preferred not to have LCP's if thats what they were made of.

It would be great to see a totally ethically produced organic formula for those who wanted to use it with a leaflet explaining in detail how to use it, what the risks are, how to minimise them and the telephone numbers of the helplines for those who may be doing the 3am panic.

when i was pregnant my breastfeeding counsellor told us that organic formula contained a much higher level of salt that non organic brands to be a preservative as salt isn't classified when it comes to organic substances (where as other preservatives are)so that is the only way they can make it and call it organic

my old charge drank organic breast milk....

cause his parents would only consume organic food!
