Help - five week old attacking my boobs!

Hi there, need some help with feeding. My DS was born on 24th Jan for the first 3 weeks everything was going great with feeding then in week four she started to get really bad wind in the evenings which we have been giving her gripe water for and that seems to be doing the trick.

This week in the afternoon/evening she has started to have what I can only describe as a feeding frenzy - she will feed and feed until she has sucked me dry, at least thats what it feels like, and as the flow of milk slows she pushes her head into my boobs and makes growling noises. She just won't let go of my nipple to the point where they both feel really bruised. Its not a latch problem as this only happens after the frenzy when she has been tugging relentlessly on my boobs.

Also when I finally manage to disengage her she sucks frantically on her hand suggesting she is still hungry.

Anyone got any ideas/suggestions to spare my boobs?

Wow thats some growth spurt. Not much advice but lots of sympathy. Hopefully your boobs will step up the amounts very quickly!

That sounds like a growth spurt!

Hang in there, keep her at the breast for as long as possible to help your supply boost.

I found that swapping sides frequently - ie. whenever the flow of milk slowed - helped to calm DS and it also helps to increase supply.
