Follow on milk?

My ds is 6 months and I don't know whether I should use follow on milk now? Be gentle with me, I am genuinely clueless as I had intended to be still breastfeeding now.

No need for it.

It's only on sale to promote formula brands.

It contains more iron than infant formula and can cause constipation.

Infant formula's completely fine to keep using till you start with cows milk at one.

Entirely optional, first milks are suitable until changing to cows milk around 1 year, but you can change to a follow on milk if you prefer.

DD was bottle fed by 6m, I changed her to follow on at around 7months, as it was cheaper. It has a bit more iron in than first milks and can be more likely to cause constipation.

I also changed as it was cheaper although ds was around 8/9 months - I also changed brand as it was cheaper still. He never got constipated.

tried it with DD1 at 15 months as she wasn't keen on cows milk, it gave her horrendous diarrhoea and nappy rash which unfortunatly coincided with my husband having a stomach upset so I assumed it was that. 10 days later when I switched back to cows milk it stopped.

On the plus side, if your LO does tolerate it, its much cheaper and you can get loyalty points on it, unlike normal formula
