DD2 is not yet 48 hours old so no milk yet ut she has been on and off the breast all day and nipples are gettins sore. when she comes off one side of my nipple is squashed. /i don't think she is taking eough breast, more nipple but can't work out what i am doing wrong. my nipples do seem to point down and it is hard to get her to gape.

any ideas?

Congratulations on DD arrival

I really struggled in the beginning with bf and also had the squashed nipple problem, always worse on one side.
Using the rugby ball hold helped a lot.

I found a face to face session with a bf counsellor the most useful thing. Our local Sure Start centre has a bf support group.

I also found these clips helpful.

Kellymom is a great resource too.
Good luck

I was going to suggest rugby ball hold, or lie on your back propped up with pillows and put DD on your tummy so that she is just leaning a little side-to-side when she latches - this hold with help to get as much of your nipple in her mouth as possible.

Do ring one of the BF helplines in the morning though as one to one help is what you need.
