What sort of country do we live in?

I'm ashamed to be British.

Fruitbatlings · 25/02/2010 14:32

There's someone who has commented on this who seems to think it didn't happen, why would you make it up though?

Fruitbatlings · 25/02/2010 14:37

X-posts 7dayweekend. Glad you got an apology, at least it's something!

bellamysbride · 25/02/2010 14:40

Amy, that is truly horrible for you. What a prick of a bus driver. Did the bus company have a word with the driver? Did nobody stand up for you and your baby? You must have been completely shocked. It is my worst nightmare. Sorry for tirade of questions but I am flabergasted by the pig ignorance.

issysmilkbottle · 25/02/2010 14:42

my dh was mortified that the driver did this and said if ever that happened to me he'd go mental!

That poor woman, 6 weeks after giving birth when emotions are still all over the place too!

RoseWater · 25/02/2010 14:43

7day glad you got an apology but it shouldnt have happened to you and your baby in the first place

SPBInDisguise · 25/02/2010 14:43

hi 7day, glad you got your apology.
i actually thought the comments were quite encouraging - mostly saying wtf at the bus driver. Odd "take a bottle" comment but thats to be expected.

SPBInDisguise · 25/02/2010 14:46

as someone else saod, i am more that a whole bus ful of people thought this was ok!
I was in soft play the other day and saw one woman very obviously sittng on another table (out of the way) to bf, and then rejoining her friends. She might have preferred it, but it's sad that bf is seen as something that you have to take yourself out of normal life to do

Good for you in taking it to the press, Amy - they have had to apologise, make some sort of amends, look at policies and training...and that's down to you!

Appalling attitude of the driver & other passengers - at least one of the benefits of using public transport in London is that everyone is practised at not looking at anyone else so it's v easy to BF without anyone noticing!

Glad you got an apology and good on you for continuing feeding

TantieTowie · 25/02/2010 15:05

Good for you 7dayweekend for standing up to them. You did just the right thing, and so glad the EP ran the piece with a pic of you BFing - to make the obvious point that there's nothing to see.

I've BF'd on First Bristol buses and FGW trains - and noone's ever said a thing. Is obviously hugely preferably to do this than to have screaming baby - especially when they're so little. Would just have been so mortified if this had happened to me.

MrsMotMot · 25/02/2010 15:21

Well done for complaining, 7dayweekend. I would now kick up a big fuss too but when DS was tiny I would have just cried- I didn't know my arse from my elbow at 6 weeks potnatal!

I live in scotland and know of the legislation protecting bf mothers in public. In fact I bf DS once on a bus underneath a bf promotional poster- felt a bit daft!

Well done 7dayweekend for making a stand.

harpsichordcarrier · 25/02/2010 20:13

why the hell didn't someone on the bus stand up for her??
outrageous

Miamla · 25/02/2010 20:19

oh a feed in is such a good idea! my DS is 19 months and only bf first thing in the morning now but i'd make an exception if i ever happen to be on a bus in Bristol!

actually, I'm going to be in Bristol first weekend of April...

spiderlight · 25/02/2010 21:09

Good for you, Amy. I'd have stood up for you!

luluvalentine · 25/02/2010 23:06

ooh can we have a feed in please? I know another two who are bf with toddlers who would travel there? and have contacts with the la leche league? sounds like the bf mafia - trying ot think of a joke with fishes

Bloody well done Amy, sounds as if someone at First will be having very sharp words with that twonk of a bus driver.

duffpancake · 25/02/2010 23:19

Of course not Madamedeath, breasts are only offensive when they're serving their intended purpose.
