periods returned despite exclsively bf

has anyone else experienced this? my periods returned when ds was 8wks, now 20 weeks and have had couple of cycles only 19 days . i thought bf was suposed to delay periods but i seem to be getting them more often than before! i remember last time gettin symptoms of them for a while before they returned as body was probably getting back to normal but wasnt sure if it was normal to be like this?

What you describe is exactly what happened to me. Just unlucky I guess.

Or maybe not - I conceived again whilst still breastfeeding DD at 13 months, which is something some people are keen to do and can't.

My periods returned after 8 weeks with ds1. He was still breast feeding every 2 - 3 hours round the clock. Be very very careful! I got pregnant with ds2 when ds1 was only 3 months old, even though I was exclusively breastfeeding. I'm delighted with the tiny age gap now but it was a hell of a shock and totally and utterly exhausting!

thanks for replies . defo need to be careful as could not cope gettin pregnant as have 3 under 5! think im more concerned about the frequency of them rather than the fact theyve returned. hopefully it will settle down.

figgis- After DD2 (DC3) my periods returned at about 8wks (but more down to reduced amount of feeds for a week i think) I've been having odd cycles ever since.

With DS i fell pg with DD1 at 7mo despite still BFing. first cycle too, before any AF, and on mini pill . And then with DD1 my AF didn't return till about 8mo...

my periods came back too when dd was about 6 weeks and dd is ebf too, they are heavier and longer than before too... Not fair! I was hoping for some period free time too!

Thinking about it, my "periods" (or at least longish bleeds that were period-like) returned at around the time DD started sleeping through (8 hours)

this happened to me too. and i also conceived dd2 when still breastfeeding dd1 at 13 months. it is just bad luck! and def be careful as soon as having sex right after giving birth unless want a small gap between this baby and the next one!

i got a period after a few weeks of ds going for nine hour stretches - at about 12 weeks. he doesn't now though - at one point feeding 2 hourly round the clock, and now 2,3,4 hourly . just got 2nd period since having him, seven weeks since the frst one

I had one period I think after lochia had stopped, and then no more until I left DS for a couple of nights at 8 months. (I forgot a pump.)
Conceived the one I'm a-brewing while BFing.

MWs & GP etc have told me everyone is different. Don't know if they're fobbing me off. From other posters it doesn't seem unusual!

Mine returned when the baby was 14 weeks both times. Some of us are just lucky I guess...

Mine came back when dd was 3 months I was gutted.

With dd 10 weeks, i was gutted. With ds 6 months, I presume as he was feeding less.

snap IndigoSky - I have an 11 month gap. Lovely now, but hard work when they were little.

sorry, haven't read the whoe threD, but same happened to me. periods returned at 4 1/2 mo, despite excl bf. i was gutted. had a second very short period abut 18 days later, then a third more normal one 4 weeks after. Did notice it had a bit of an effect on DD's feeding.
didn't come back till well after i'd finished feeding DD1, i felt cheated this time!

Mine always returned round about the time of my six-week-check and I exclusively fed all 4. Needless to say I was extremely careful with the contraception.
