Help! Feeding like a newborn again...

My DS is 15 weeks and bf on demand. Of his own accord, night feeds had levelled out at 2, maybe 3 max (generally approx 1am & 4am after settling at about 9pm).

However, the past 4 nights his night feeding has increased exponentially to hourly. Day feeds are pretty much unchanged - does get distracted, but latches back on and clears the plate, so to speak

Just when I was emerging from the babyfog it's descending again - and I have a shocking cold I'm struggling to get rid of, the house is a tip and we have visitors this weekend and frankly I can only just get through the day.

Does anyone have an experience like this? Is his feeding pattern likely to level out again? I'm really reluctant to introduce a top up ff before bed, but that seems to be what is being suggested to me by friends to give me a wee break and a couple of solid hours sleep. Would that even work?

DS birth weight: 8lb 12oz, weight at 14 weeks: 16lb 7oz. He's a happy thriving smiler. tho his mummy not doing much smiling at the mo [yawning emoticon]

My ds did exactly the same at 15 weeks.....it seems to be a common time for a growth (and therefore feeding) spurt! It lasted about a week to 10 days before levelling out again.....but prepare yourself because he did exactly the same at about 21 weeks

I would avoid ff top ups purely because they will reduce your supply and therefore create a bit of a viscous circle where your son will end up feeding more to increase your supply again. However, you need to do what's best for you.

I did wonder if it might be growth spurt related. However it is odd that it is all concentrated in the nighttime. Normally (if there is a normally at 15 weeks ) his feedings increase across the board. He is also extra awake at night - all thrashing around and squeaking. Bit purturbed that maybe his day/night thing is reversing.

Thanks detoxdiva I'll hold off on the ff, fingers crossed that it's only a few more days...

growth spurt

this was the worst one IME

10 days here too

just keep offering the breast - if you top up then as the PP says your supply will be affected

it is grim - you think you are over the worst and then BAM!!!!
