My daughter is coughing/choking while feeding?

hi,

my 12 wk old daughter is coughing/choking/gasping while feeding. I believe i have a fast let down and it happens mostly when she is guzzling at the start (although it did just happen about half way through). she is happily sucking away and then i heaer a rumbling sound which sounds like too much milk has gone down too quickly which then sounds like its backing up and then she is gasping and choking and coughing which basically sounds like when your food goes down the wrong hole.

it's really upsetting her feed and over the past few weeks its been getting worse. any help or advice would be greatly appreciated xx

The only advice I've heard for a fast let down is to let her start feeding, pull her away and catch the milk in a bottle, then let her resume when it's gone back to normal. I don't know how well that works though!

Have a read here. Lots of good advice

There can be several let downs during a feed which could explain why she did it in the middle of a feed as well.

Thanks for your help - the kellymom peice is really helpful x Have tried feeding her uphill and this has really helped as the milk flow isn't as quick.

Good to hear you have found something that has worked quickly for you.

Hopefully some of the other tips will be helpful too, but as it says, some of them take a bit longer to implement.

Good luck
