BF 2nd time around

Just looking for some reassurance I suppose. Im 39w with DC2 and starting to think about labour, birth, having a newborn.
I got on okay with BF first time round, DD was a bit sleepy to start with and I had oversupply so milk came squirting out and then a few weeks in we both had thrush but got that treated so really no major problems.
I'm just wondering if it all comes back to you second time round. DD is almost 23 months now and I fed her for 11 months so it's been a year since I BF. I'll remember what to do won't I?

Congratulations!
I BF my two. And yes it all came back. It was easier to start breast feeding (partly because of a faster easier birth 2nd time around) and partly because I was more confident and calm (because I'd done it before) and combining looking after the two of them was easier than I had feared.

You will remember because it's muscle memory rather than stuff you need your brain for! And if you are still worried get the details of a local breastfeeding support group or re read some of your baby books.

Hope that is reasuuring enough?

yes it'll be fine. i'm bfing ds. there's a 3.5 year age gap between mine.

you will be fine, it is like riding a bike

Just breasfeeding DS3 now and the techniques for latching on etc. do come back.

One thing that surprised me though is how different each LO was at breasfeeding and how each have had different issues and problems to overcome. Sounds obvious really, but something to bear in mind!

Sounds like you managed fine before and as you know there's is plenty of help out there if things don't go so smoothly.
Good luck with your new LO

I'm another one (a bit) worried about this - 16 weeks pregnant with DC2 and still breastfeeding DS1.

Getting it established with him was very hard, and feeding a newborn with no experience versus feeding a one year old is so different.

I am sure it will all come back to both of us.

Thanks for the reassurance.
I'm not really an anxious person but I'm not sleeping well and these sort of things start running through my head.
If I had oversupply first time round am I likely to have it again?

Had DS2 6 weeks ago, and we took to bfeeding immediately. Far easier second time round IME as you now what to expect. And it all came back to me!

Re. the oversupply - I had this issue with DS1 and have it again. Am block feeding and yesterday decided to stop expressing for the one bottle feed DH does as that was making matters far worse. Both things have helped lots.

Oh it is so much better 2nd time round - I BF first son for 5 months, and only wanted to do about the same second time round, but it was so easy and enjoyable that I did it for around 8 months even though I went back to work when he was 6 months old.
You'll love it - do it.
