Hi all. I have questionthati would appreciate your great wisdom with. I am due to go away to a hot country with DD next month. She will be 5 months and exclusively breast fed. I spoke to my HV this morning who said I'd need to give her cooled, boiled water. Dd won't take a bottle so no idea how I could get this into her anyway but I thought that just breastfeeding alone would be fine as I thought that milk composition became thinner to quench thirst if the temp hotter? I'm really hoping I can get away with just BF as sterilising etc will be so much faff (lazy mummy alert) and most of the time we will be in a nice, air con hotel. Is the Hv right? Thanks all v much in advance.

You are absolutely right. As long as you feed on demand (and she might demand more if she's thirsty) then there's no need for extra water.

your breasts are all you need they qench her thirst and as mawbroon says as longas you feed when ever d d needs then she will have all she needs

yeah it's a load of nonsense, although my HV spouted the water thing at me for about the first six months. BF DS in Egypt in VERY hot temps and BF was fantastically simple and kept him beautifully hydrated!

How on earth do some hvs keep their jobs ?

Bf absolutely all she needs.

Wonder what bf mums in Egypt do lol? Bet they don't have HV saying give extra water?!!
