Magazine stand feed in?

OK, I am getting sick of people expecting me to hide when using my breasts for the proper purpose, then going to buy sweets and seeing nuts and zoo on display.

Does anyone fancy doing some kind of feed-in next to a magazine stand? I'm trying to think of somewhere that has a cafe right next to the magazines in Newcastle...

Either that, or we could all go and stand next to the magazines/newspapers and take photos of ourselves breastfeeding and post them somewhere. That way people all over the country can get involved.

Or maybe both...

Do you really want to do this to your baby. Sounds horrible to me. Your baby should be protected, not involved in aggressive political action.

ButterPie · 18/02/2010 11:07

oh, come on. The baby doesn't care, and I will be taking my 3 year old along to show her that you don't have to just take stuff lying down

Oh, fgs, openbook.

The baby won't know anything about it!

Openbook · 18/02/2010 11:14

Suit yourself, but I think it's a vile idea.

nickytwotimes · 18/02/2010 11:16

Why is it vile?

GhoulsAreLoud · 18/02/2010 11:20

I think you'd be better off doing one in the reception are on Nuts or Zoo...

GhoulsAreLoud · 18/02/2010 11:20

Sorry, can't type today, cold hands.

Doing one in the reception area of nuts or zoo, in the building where they are based IYSWIM.

nickytwotimes · 18/02/2010 11:24

That's a great idea, Ghouls!

I'm in Scotland where we have the law that allows women to bf anywhere at all. It is great and I do notice more bfing going on in public.

I didn't manage to bf ds and am pg again - determined to make it work this time. The more it is accepted as a normal activity, the better.

It's not just the breastfed babies that benefit from public breastfeeding. My 3 year old daughter is learning that breasts are a positive part of a woman's body, not something to be ashamed of or to use just to attract men. I hope that is going to make her more confident about her body as she grows up.

Facebook are back at it btw, banning people for putting pictures of themselves breastfeeding up. I just did a search for "zoo magazine" on there and saw much worse.

This isn't about porn, that is a whole other issue (I personally don't mind it too much if it is kept to specialist websites and shops) this is about the fact that pretty much every single magazine shop has pictures of semi naked women in provocative poses and derogatory comments on the same display as the comics, yet breastfeeding is still seen as somehow obscene. What message is that sending to our daughters? For that matter, what message is that sending to our sons?

Quite, butterpie.

I have to listen to the likes of my MIL who goes on about it being disgusting to see a baby being bf in a restaurant ffs.

The more visible bfing is, the sooner those attitudes will die out.

I have no problem with breasts being sexual, but no to the fetishised degree they are in our society.

Ooh, I enjoyed that blog

Funnily enough, I have thought of doing this, but in an artyfarty type way rather than for political purposes. Bfing has made me far more aware of my body and utterly utterly fucked off that the world is quite happy for me to get my tits out for the lads, but not for my baby

And this is bum rather than boobs, but saw it linked to from somewhere with the tagline "as if it wasn't hard enough raising daughters already" American Apparel butt contest
