Is (s)he putting on weight? producing wet and dirty nappies? feeding more than 12 times over a period of 24 hours? Taking both breasts each time? Ever fed less frequently than this? Taking anything else other than your milk?

Are you expressing at all/offering milk other than from the breast eg in bottle, cup, spoon?

You must be cream-crackered.

HumphreyCobbler · 16/02/2010 20:57

It is bloody knackering, my dd did that.

Once six months past she took to solid food and it got a lot easier.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 16/02/2010 21:02

Both of ds's have fed in the day like that - thankfully it wasn't the same in the night.

Once I started to wean them at 6mo they took to food like ducks to water and the breastfeeds dropped over the following couple of months.

Hang on in there. You're doing a great thing.

PardonMyClench · 16/02/2010 21:14

I had this until about 6 months. Starting on food really helped and by about 7 1/2 months she was feeding every 4-5 hours.
Hang on in there. It's hard work and you feel it will never end but it does and now I have to go back to work next week I know I'll really miss BF.

FlopemOut · 16/02/2010 21:49

Isn't that normal?

ImSoNotTelling · 16/02/2010 21:54

Mine was like this. She has improved beyond belief since i started her on solids. She's 7 months now and BF 3 or 4 times in the day and none or 1 at night! The amount of food she has been packing away just shows that she is a greedy gannet I reckon, she was just very hungry.

notsotinybaba · 16/02/2010 22:17

Same as mine too! I thought I was the only one at the time.
DD cut down to about 4 feeds a day at 8 months, then 2 feeds a day at 10 months. Changed really quickly when started weaning (BLW). Similar to Imsonottelling, my DD is very greedy and eats HUGE amounts of food, takes after me

FlopemOut · 16/02/2010 22:28

I like to think that I am nuturing a future Olympic athlete as my hungry 25 wk old DD is already crawling. I hope the feeding lessens with BLW which we started on the weekend. It's tiring isn't it?!

ImSoNotTelling · 17/02/2010 09:00

Aw flopem you must be proud

My DD1 was like that, I was quietly ever so chuffed. My DD2 on the other hand is mastering absolutely nothing, bar of course eating vast amounts of calories

lazzaroo · 17/02/2010 11:05

I was beginning to stress that my 10 week old had gone back from 3 hourly feeds to approx every 2 hours, but it sounds like this could be normal and go on for a little longer!! I worry sometimes that i overfeed her by misunderstanding her hunger cues! Luckily she only wakes once or twice in the night after settling about 8pm so guess she just stocks up during the day?

Elasticwoman · 17/02/2010 13:45

Lazzaroo - it's not possible to overfeed a breastfed baby, or so i've been told.

maldod · 17/02/2010 14:01

yes is putting on weight consistently. plenty of wet & dirty nappies. i have expressed but she will not take a bottle, u would think i was trying to poison her!! also tried offering the other side once she has stopped but she finds this V. funny!!

thank u, not long until solids then. think she is going to love food, always watching us eat

Maldod it might be worth actually counting how many times over 24 hours you do feed. Could be cluster feeding at a particular part of the day.

When I was trying to get my baby to feed less frequently I used to take her out for a walk in the pram to find out if she really was hungry, or needed to sleep, or wanted change of scenery.
