Hormones after stopping bf?

I stopped bf (DD 10 months) 3 weeks ago as I was dependant on high dose of domperidone. Initially i felt quite down about it but i think i amm over that now. However I still feel unusually depressed and anxious about everything else. I am assuming hormones are all over the place when you stop but it doesn't make sense to me as I read that raised prolactin levels (which you have when bf) can cause depression, not the other way round?

Just wondered if anyone experienced this or has any theories? It could all be a coincidence of course (as my life if fairly stressful anyway!) but I do feel rather odd :-(

thanks alot

After stopping feeding my 2 eldest, both times I felt different. Its hard to describe, but i started taking more notice of my appearence, started wanting to go out more, became less 'homely'. Breastfeeding (I am currently breastfeeding DD now) makes me feel more contented with my lot i think!!

Prolactin makes you feel more loving feelings and calmness, not the other way around

spybear... i've spent the last 6 years straight either preg or bf-ing or both and your post has just given me such a ray of hope that i can go back to feeling normal at some point... thanks

thanks all. It sounds like its just me then?!
I did read somewhere that you can get delayed PND when you stop if you are prone (I think i may have had it last time around - wasn't bf). Still feeling crap :-(

Maybe you are due on a period if you've just stopped BF, When my DD1 was still bf at 1YO and I still hadn't come on my period, I started to get terrible PMT all of the time, I snapped at everything, cried at everything. It really felt like I NEEDED a period.

I asked my Dr about going on the mini pill to maybe kick start my periods. He told me i had post natal depreesion and gave me a prescription for anti depressants. I didn't take them but was furious for days after, especially for not sticking up for myself more...bloddy doctors

spybear - yet its likely as no periods while i was bf. How long did it take after you stopped bf?

thanks

I didn't stop bf, but periods returned between 9-12m each time.

Wish it would hurry up if thats what it is as i feel terrible - physically really anxious all the time, tearful, pissed off. As you say, if i go to gp will prob get given anti d's. I have read alot about the drop in oxytocin after you stop making you feel worse too.
