Hipps&constipation

HerMomminess · 11/02/2010 12:40

DD1 is 6mo and recently completely ff. Also BLW. Constipation an issue last week or so.

Could it be the (frist stage) Hipps?

Previously used aptimel.

Any ideas anyone?

Usually their poo changes a lot in consistency when they start eating solids ... doesn't necessarily mean constipation though.

You haven't moved her to follow-on milk? Is she getting any vitamins, particularly iron? That always constipates them.

Starting solids also messes up their poo.

Did you change formula for a reason?

hi there- exactly the same thing happened to DD2 at the time that she started swallowing food (blw and probably not much going down til 7+ months). She had been mix bf and ff on Hipp Organic 1st stage from 5.5 months. I too was worried it was the milk but it was a phase that lasted about 2-3 weeks. She is now 10 months and I stopped bf 3 weeks ago so she is now 100% ff and blw and no constipation at all.

Thanks everyone. I guess it still comes& goes so to speak.

Changed to Hipps cause I prefer organic products. But I agree it wasn't that.

Just sticking to lots of fruit&veg etc.

Someone once said to me (it may have been a HV or GP, I forget, so she was probably talking out of her bottom) that Hipp is more constipating than some formulas because it hasn't got as many little extra chemical nasties to keep their guts moving. I have absolutely no idea if that's true though.

FWIW we used HIPP first stage milk (DS was mixed fed from 10 weeks), and never moved on to the follow on, as the one time we tried his (already fairly bad) constipation got much worse immediately.

Cheers everyone. I wonder if it is just her getting used to new 'consistency' IYSWIM. Some poo each day, some more 'solid' thatn others. Trying not to obesess about it!

hope I guess Hipps minus chemical nasties should be better in the long term. And-no- I can; t see the benefit of changing to follow on.
