Is this it, has my milk gone?

DD is 9 months, I started back at work full time in January so I have only been feeding her in the morning and evening before bed. Of course being a primary school teacher the children have given me loads of lovely bugs since I started back, I have been very run down and now have horrible diarrhea, I'm off work today.

I fed her last night, but she woke up after a couple of hours and DH gave her a bottle to let me sleep, she gulped down 9oz and then slept all night. It is the first time she has slept all night for a week and a half, she normally is a great sleeper and I put her night waking down to teething and last week an ear infection, but is it my lack of milk? I couldn't feed her this morning as I had taken an immodium, on the doctors advice, when I went to express there was NO milk!

Is that it, is my BF over? I really wanted to continue for longer, it seems to be doing DD so much good and keeping her healthy now she is at nursery full time.

Bump...please what do I do. Expressing isn't working, nothing is coming out. I can't keep putting her to my breast in the day, I'm at work.

Hi, sorry not be able to give you any proper help, but though you could ring the NCT breastfeeding helpline for expert advice:
Breastfeeding Line - 0300 330 0771

Fenugreek supplement is also supposed to boost milk supply, I've used it successfully.
Don't forget that the amount expressed doesn't necessarily reflect how much supply you have. Rest and drink lots of water if you can.
Hopefully more help will be along soon.

Thanks Crikeybadger, Unfortunately I live in Spain so I can't phone that number.

You can phone it, though

The line often takes calls from outside the UK.

Chica - best thing to do is simply to feed. It is crackers not to bf because of using immodium - dear oh dear. Where did the doctor train? I don't normally diss doctors on MN because it's not certain we ever hear the whole story, but this story is clear!

www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/drugs-in-breastmilk-information-and-factsheets.html has good info on diarrhoea and treatment and bf.

Frequent feeding will restore your milk supply - it's the only thing that's sure to work

Tik tok, thank you so much, you are always ready with advice. My sister is about to have a baby, I've already told her about you!

Do share that factsheet about immodium and bf with your doc, now, won't you?

How can something that is not absorbed from the gut actually get into the breastmilk? Answer me this, doctor, please!!

My doctor never lets me take anything! I would of course normally gone to the pharmacy and bought some myself, but when I told the pharmacist I was BFing she told me I had to go to the doctors. I have suffered for 3 nearly 4 days with horrible diarrhea, because I kept putting off going to the doctors. I ended up yesterday being really dehydrated and in a bit of a mess. The kids in my class were convinced I was going to keel over on them. I sure they are relieved I am not in today!

Try telling Spanish doctors anything, they all seem to have a bit of a God complex!

Hi, thanks, I'm back feeding no problems, she took a huge feed this morning when we got up, I was rock hard with milk leaking every where. I have never been happier waking up all wet. I just fed and fed on Thursday, all afternoon and evening.
