Cystitis & BF

Anyone taken advice from GP on taking over the counter cystitis relief products when BF. DD is almost 13 months, so not a tiny vulnerable baby any more, but still not sure if it's ok.

Im not sure if you can but a great help for cystitis is alka selzer - anything alkaline basically and the best advice from one who had suffered from the dreaded curse more times than I care to remember is DONT drink tea or coffee or wine. Acidity in food and drink makes much worse. Hope you feeling better.

Thankyou! It's relatively mild at the moment, but I want to nip it in the bud before it gets nasty and thinks about infecting my kidneys too - been there before and it's not nice!

No alka selzer in the house, but I do have rennies (left over from pregnancy heartburn) which I guess must be alkaline. Will give them a shot as they are definitely ok for bf'ing.

Anyone else got suggestions or advice?

have a look at the packaging, there should be guidance in the pack saying if unsuitable to give when bf.

Oooo just remembered that bicarb of soda also good. x

The pack says do not take if pg or bf, but a bit of googling (dangerous, I know) seems to suggest that other brands (same ingredients) say only take on GPs advice.

Hmmm, bring on the rennie!
