Vomiting bug hell

Hi
My DS (5 mo) is normally an excellent feeder (bf) who is not a sicky baby and is usually easy to wind.

He came down with a vomiting bug last Friday and couldn't keep anything down, including water, for 2 days, and I ended up having to take him to hospital for dehydration risk (I came down with it too and it was awful).

He is now a lot chirpier and keeping the majority of his feeds down, feeding for a long time sometimes, presumably to get his intake up.

Like most babies, he likes a big feed before bed to take him through, and often falls asleep straight after this feed. For the past 3 nights he has woken retching at 5am, throwing up in his cot, resulting in two frazzled parents having to change sheets and one wide-awake baby who wants to feed and then play!

I realise to some extent I have to ride this out and hope his tummy gets stronger in time but does anyone have any tips/advice/experience? I am shattered after a week of so much sick (from both of us) and lack of sleep, but reluctant to limit ds's time on breast.

Thanks for anything anyone has to offer.

If you're feeding him at bedtime and then he's not retching until 5am then I would have thought he would have digested the bulk of the milk he's taken in. I wouldn't limit his time on the breast as obviously this is what he needs to sort himself out, keep hydrated etc. We've just had several nights of DD only being sick at night and it does pass.

It's obvious really but go to bed REALLY early and then you'll be more awake for the day when your DS is! Now is not the time to watch TV/have time with your DP in the evening.

My DD currently thinks 5.30am is morning so last night I went to bed at 8.30pm and today I feel fine!
