5 Month Old and Solids

Hello, probably should be in weaning but I'm really confused.

DD is 5mths and a few days and the last few days have been a nightmare. She is BF constantly and after 4 months of sleeping through has started to wake again 2/3 times a night.

I dont think its teething (no signs) and she has started to go mental when I'm eating and grabbing at everything food wise that comes near her.

I'd like some advice please, before I start her on solids. I know the advice is 6 months min but I'd like pointed in the direction of some research. I've tried googling but it comes up with a lot of links.

I think I'd just like some decent advice, such as links to allergies, future probs etc. Just to help me hold off and get through with the broken sleep again for another month!
TIA x

The sleep disruption will be a developmental thing. Their brains get much bigger and they become more aware and sleep is buggered up as a result. It's really common at that age (4/5 months). Google 4 month sleep regression and you'll see a lot about. Feeding solids won't help it.

As for the risks of early weaning and signs of readiness - someone will come along with a link shortly I'm sure.

thanks starlight there was a def wtf moment at 2.45am.

besom - i've never heard of that, its really interesting will google. I've got a list of readiness signs, just dont have much info on why its 6 months for health reasons if that makes sense.

looks like i'm stuck to the couch with cake bars for 4 more weeks

(i'm typing while feeding and she's just done a massive poo which has leaked all over me and the cushion. thank you child )

Or rehydrated raisins!

Here is a good site and some info about weaning.

Thanks ladies, I had the dreaded weigh-in at the HV today and wanted to go prepared.

This time she didnt mention weaning which isnt like her, so didnt have to try to hold my ground. DD weight is creeping back up, so she didnt have much to say really!

chipstick, I could have written your post almost word for word! I have JUST been through it, took about a week for my supply to increase. DS was 5 months and a few days, and had been sleeping through the night from 8 weeks. Suddenly he was waking at night, feeding constantly, ended up in our bed for about 5 nights (DH kicked out to spare room). I think we're through the worst now, he finally slept through again last night.

The HV told me 'full steam ahead on solids' last Thursday but after reading the weaning advice on MN I've decided to hold off until 6 months and then will try BLW. During the past week we did try a bit of baby rice and some mushed carrot, but it mostly ended up on his bib/in his ears/up his nose. I seriously can't be bothered with trying to force the poor kid to eat runny stuff on a spoon.

I was actually Starlight

Yankn the thought of giving this little kangaroo anything runny makes me terrified. I know i'll be wearing it seconds later!
