Block feeding for over dupply issues

I read this and this and wondered if lactose overload may be the cause of my 10 week old's chronic colic and mucusy slimy nappies (which haven't resolved since cutting out dairy and gluten from my diet).

Today is day 1 of block feeding from one breast only for 4 hour intervals, and other than discomfort from the unused breast I haven't noticed much difference in her, nor her caramel gloopy poo.

Any ideas how long I keep this up for before I declare it irrelevant to us? We have been referred to the gastro BTW, just waiting for an appointment (over a week after our 'urgent' referral).

Is your supply excessive? How is his weight gain?

I have not heard of lactose overload before, although those links look reasonably convincing.

It's not reassuring, but probably worth noting, that babies are weird little buggers, and whatever is up with them generally passes.

Weight gain is not an issue at all. My supply is plentiful. I wouldn't have said excessive, but DD feeds so often for comfort that it may well be.

I would tend to agree with your contrary comment, except that we went through merry hell with DD1 for months and months only to find out that she had severe silent reflux and gluten issues. I'm just not prepared to put this LO through that if there is something I can do about it. She's had nappy issues from pretty much day 1 - even her meconium was slimy - which suggests to me that this probably isn't the issue, but it's worth a try in case it is contributary.

She's had a bad day today, but I think I must have eaten something she doesn't agree with as she has a rash across her tummy too.
