Top teeth through - when will it stop hurting?

DD is nearly 9 months old and one of her top middle teeth has come through and the other is about to and it's really bloody painful. As there's no tongue to cover up these top teeth unlike the bottom ones when she latches on IYKWIM, does anyone know if it's going to continue to be painful like this for the forseable future?
Thanks

IME it grazed a bit for a week or so until DS seemed to get used to his teeth (he cut his 1st few at around 6 months).

I tried to change his nursing position a bit which helped based on what I read here.

It definitely settled down quickly and he's still bf 12 months on with almost a full set of gnashers.

Hope it settles down v soon

Yes I'd say a week or two as well. Lansinoh (sp?) helps.

Thanks - that makes me feel better. It was a bit of a shock to suddenly have pain while feeding - thought that was waaay behind us!

I found holding my boob sort of underneath and around the sides and gently changing the shape a bit helped.

Difficult to describe really, I just did it with trial and error but now nearly a year on from where you are I'm still managing to bf with a full (in the front anyhow!) set of teeth in ds2 and very rarely get a nip.

Not sure if I changed position as well, it's sort of evolved as ds2 got bigger and could wiggle shift himself around, but reading this has made me realise that I do still tend to hold boob to get it right.

Like others have said, it should take a week or two for her to adjust her latch and accommodate her new teeth. DS wore a little groove on the side of my aerola (skin virtually unbroken, but it did hurt) for a week and I stuck lots of Lansinoh on at every opportunity, and it improved within a few days. I also tried moving him round - lying him on the other side, sitting him up, etc - which helped while it was still sore. After that, we never looked back. I feed him now with a mouthful of teeth.

Don't worry, it will improve!
