breast and bottle..........................

My baby is now 9 weeks old and I am trying to introduce breast and bottle as I do need to leave her occasionally. Tried lots of teats until eventually found one she will have in her mouth (Tommy Tippee NUBY slow flow) now it seems to be the formula - can anyone suggest a formula milk? I have tried Aptamil (Blue) and Milumil (Yellow), Cow & Gate (Green) she seems to take 1oz the realise she doesn't like it an spits out bottle and all milk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone solved this problem? I know breast ,ilk from bottle should be best but cannot express - find it too difficult.

Spilla, how often and when have you tried expressing ?

mckenzie · 07/07/2005 09:13

have you tried changing the temperature of the formula? If you've been giving it warm , try room temperature instead.

Tried early morning on advice of health visitor

I went through exactly the same thing when I first introduced formula to my baby girl. She absolutely screamed her head off and refused to take the bottle. If it was expressed milk, she'd be fine so I guess that it was just the different taste of the formula that she didn't like. I then started introducing a tiny bit of formula after a breasfeed, which got her used to the taste and eventually I was able to feed her a full bottle.

Good luck!

Yes but how often have you tried, it is very common not to succeed the first couple of times but then you can get loads. Some people get on better with hadn expressing or hand pump or electric pump. What did you try?

Pupuce -- Tried with hand pump and first time I got loads and thought it was a breeze, then next few times I only got a trickle, might try again tomorrow as Fornula is not working.

When you have expressed a bit can you add more to the bottle or do you have to have spearate containers each time?

You can add several expressing sessions into 1 bottle.

try getting some of the ready mixed cartons - see which she takes.

When I needed formula I tended to use farleys - no idea why though

spilla, the electric pumps are sooo much easier. If you will be expressing fairly often it is worth the investment.
