Ok, I'm a trustee of a local breastfeeding support group, working alongside Little angels, we're sorting out a web page and need some feedback on appearance, tone, and ease of use, with constructive comments for improvements - I already have some, but we need input from a good range of people to make sure it's a site which people will want to engage with. our target audience are from teens to older mums, all social classes, with attention to making it attractive and accessible.

thanks in advance

Looks great. I don't love the colours and some pages are a bit cluttered. I do love the calendar though, and the I'm Doing It! page

I'm an older mum, currently still BFing my 1st at 10mo. Honestly? I'm finding the amount of visible flesh on display really off-putting. For me, it's always been important to feed discreetly - and I'm one of the more relaxed ones among my friends who have BFed theirs. They all seem to use those covers you can get to go over your entire front, like a tent that the baby goes in. Or express and feed from a bottle when they're out. So I guess I would feel more comfortable with a mix of more discreet pictures, that I could relate my own experience to?

Hope that helps...

The website doesn't seem to work properly in Google Chrome. I had to reload about 3 times to get it to appear.

jamila169 · 23/01/2010 02:33

Thanks for replying folks, as far as the site's concerned we are trying to get away from the hiding in corners while still being tasteful, and to show real women doing it . we're not lactivists by any stretch
dita, what is it about the colours?, It's been swapped a bit, but the colours to me are too strong and eyeboggling, i need to take that up with the girl who's doing it, I'm itching to have a play, but shes the site donor and hasn't signed us up to a separate admin sadly.
Bertie, thanks for the info about chrome - i don't think admin has thought about testing, but i'm trying to get some access for testing, we maybe need to find a way to preserve the graphics while making it load quicker

Okay, but I'm not convinced! As I say, my ante-natal group has bucked the national trend with all bar BFing to at least 6 months, so..

I like the I'm Doing It photos, but the home page is just way too much flesh and posed photos for me, and bears no resemblence to how real women would feed their babies on a day to day basis. But I guess other people must like this!

bounty007 · 23/01/2010 09:22

oh dear, far too much flesh! I have always been proud to breastfeed and am in no way embarassed about nakedness, but the home page put me off even looking at the rest of the sight...

bounty007 · 23/01/2010 09:23

site!!!

IsItMeOr · 23/01/2010 11:21

Thanks bounty - I was beginning to feel that I must be some sort of weirdo!

MerlinsBeard · 23/01/2010 11:31

I can't view properly on iPod but I'm not keen on what I see. Yes the idea of portarying breastfeeding as normal is excellent BUT ..... I did my feed by sitting there with everything hanging out, nor did any of the other bf mothers. Equally we weren't hiding away.

Displaying bf the way that you have with posed black and White shots and everything hanging out was certainly not my normal

MerlinsBeard · 23/01/2010 11:33

That should be I didn't do my feeding with everything hanging out!

humptynumpty · 23/01/2010 11:34

jamila, I thought it was great. I love the pictures and that they are so obviuolsy real, not posed too much, real ladies and real babies.
If I lived in bolsover, I would get in touch. I can't really see the problem with too much skin. I think that it is a celebration of nature. I find it refreshing to see people bf with no embarassement. I am sick of seeing poor women stuffed in a corner covered from head to foot in blankets/shawls etc...
i realise some people feel more comfortable that way , but i think if more people were exposed to pics like yours, they wouldn't need to stare and people wouldn't need to feel embarassed.
Dunno if you should put some sort of disclaimer saying that these girls are bf and proud, but obviously they don't sit naked in coffee shops bf like they are in the pics!!
Maybe a section on discreet bf out and about would be good?
well done tho, am impressed!

DitaVonCheese · 23/01/2010 12:00

Jamila I'm not a big fan of pink anyway, and it's quite a luminous shade which, plus the minty green, is just a bit too zingy for me. It might also be worth checking with someone who knows about access issues how easily it can be viewed by someone who is partially sighted, as I know different colour combinations are easier/harder than others. I may know someone who could advise about that if it would be helpful

almostreal · 23/01/2010 12:10

Great idea a bit in the celebrity BF section you show a photo of a woman BF her baby and have the caption "pierce Brosnan and Family" He isn't the one BF, his wife IMO should be acknowledged by name pretty disrespectful.

IsItMeOr · 23/01/2010 14:06

There's a big difference between sitting in a corner under a shawl and posing completely starkers. Somewhere in between those two would be my normal.

jamila169 · 25/01/2010 10:29

The black and white photos are us!(I'm christmas and i don't recognise myself) it was a photoshoot for a calendar which we're seeking funding for FWIW, I've done a landing page which will be the first one that you see and it has a watermark image which is one of the covered up shots, faded out to 25% so it symbolises the site but isn't in your face. Myself and our chair are taking control of content from now on, because we do feel that the point is being missed a bit (and Mel, who's an english teacher is getting freaked by the typos and grammatical errors)
The accessibilty issue is a good one, it might be a good way to get things toned down, i know that certainly with my fibro related issues it's a bit painful to read, esp with the text on green. Dita can you get your friend to look at it? it would be helpful, thanks
