How long did it take for your periods to return to normal?

I bf my lo for just over 12mths. Had 1 day of bleeding when he was down to 2 feeds at 11mths old, then 28 days later a normal period. was thinking, cool, af is back to normal but, no, wait, there's more. am now cd36 and nothing.

before you ask, have done a HPT - BFN. am vaguely thinking about ttc in a couple of months time but this might put a spanner in the works.

so ladies, share please, how long did it take for your cycle to return to normal after bfing?

About a month after BF. I BF/bottlefed for 5 months. Once I stopped BF they started pretty soon after that. I remember being pretty shocked because it had been 14 months without a period I had got used to it not happening!!

Had a half arsed effort at a period when I went down to 2 feeds. Then a second one abt 30 days later which was a bitch. After that I had a wonky cycle which I put down to sprout being ill and increasing feeds and to a bereavement. Stopped feeding mid April and was pregnant again by August.

Mine never got completely regular in between. But I think my cycle was usually shorter.

Wait a few days and test again - but don't panic.

Thanks for the reassurance. My first proper AF was horrendous too, MaHobbit. Thought I was having every single nasty symptom of AF possible as some sort of bizarre payback for not having AF for near on 2 years!

Mine came back after 6 months while I was still mostly breastfeeding. Still lighter than they were before my pregnancy.

Mine came back when dd was 13 weeks old despite exclusive feeding every 2hrs day and night.

They were fairly regular at first but I wasn't fertile as my luteal phase was only 4/5 days. It slowly lengthened to a normal number of days and my cycle settled but it took 10 months or so. This was while still bfing though.

Anyway, I did a lot of reading around the return of periods while/after bfing and it's very, very, very common to have 1 or 2 periods and then nothing for a few months. It's something to do with hormones settling back down and is very common indeed.

mine came back as normal after three months both times, despite exclusive bf. Also much heavier. grr.

It varies massively! After DD it was back to normal after 8 or 9 months (was still BF). I still haven't again started yet after DS (7 1/2 months, still BF).

It's going to be a shock when it comes back. I've only had 3 or 4 periods in the last 3 years!

It was about 7 months of BF, I think - I was still feeding pretty often but they came back at around 7 months. They were very light and painfree for the first few months, but sadly have resumed their full-blooded glory now!

When DD was 8 weeks old. Still bf now at 9mo!
