My GP has just started me on AD's. TBH I've been putting of going to see her for about 6months since going back to work, finally plucked up courage last fri. All came flooding out.

She's given me citalopram coz thats what Ive taken before. Told me can't BF on it & the benefits of me being on AD's outweight the benefits of BF. I didn't want to stop BF under these circumstances - think I'll regret it forever.

She's switched me to sertraline.
Has anyone had any experience of taking this & BF? (BTW DS is 12months old)

Been on citalopram for 15 years. Saw gp b4 conceiving as didn't want to change she sent me to see specialist who said it was fine to be on citalopram whilst pregnant and bf.
With my first I was only on 10mg throughout preg upped to 20 mg after birth due to anxiety and bf for 2 years.
With my second child was on 20mg throughout pregnancy but when she was born had a really hard time with anxiety and was upped to 40mg where I remain. She is now nearly 2 and still bf and all is well.
My gp was happy to prescribe once she had discussed with specialist who had more knowledge, prior to that she was happy to change me to sertraline or dothiepin as those are what she usually px with no problems to pregnant women.

Sertraline is the first choice of antidepressants for BF mothers.
