Will my milk come back??

Had a very bad bout of D and V yesterday, ate nothing, have only managed 1 slice of toast today. My milk supply has pretty much dissapeared, will it come back when I start eating properly again?

It should do, but you must make sure that you stay hydrated even if you aren't eating much. I had gastroenteritis for 4 days when DD was 6 weeks old. NHS direct said to keep feeding and drink plenty. Hope you are feeling better.x

I had this recently, had the flu quite badly and my milk seemed to just disappear for a few days. I gave DS (7months) top ups after first letting him try to breastfeed, i think he got little bits whilst i was ill and I wanted my supply to come back. When i started feeling better my supply also started to improve although took a while before it got back to normal.
I also sought advice here and was told the best thing to do is just keep feeding and it should all come right!

sorry, should have said I gave him top ups of formula.(but not sure if that will be necessary as my mum told me that when she was ill and breastfeeding she just kept feeding until it came back)

It will come back. Keep on feeding as normal, or more then normal.

I had bad d&v during bfing and still produced milk, even if the let down took longer then normal.

Keep your fluid intake up - rehydration fluids are the best, as well as flat coke or flat lemonade.

Thanks - it came back properly this morning, kids have got the bug now though!
