My ds is breastfed, he also has three pretty good meals a day. The problem is that he just wont feed when we are out and about, only at home in a very quiet room, when he is nearing sleep or has just woken. He will show signs of wanting a feed but then just take a couple of slurps, start looking around and won't latch on again. This means that I feel like I can only go out for a couple of hours at a time, which is quite limiting and a bit isolating. Today we went out to a museum and I had to find a door to hide behind just to get him to drink something!! I had solid boobs by the time we got home as he had had so little. He will only take a couple of sips of water from a doidy cup (he won't take a bottle but that's a another story...) and won't tolerate any kind of shawl to stop distractions.
Any advice gratefully received as this is preventing us getting out and about!

Hi Bella..my ds did this around 7 months too. He would start feeding, yell, pull off, latch on, feed, flail around..it was awful! It seemed to be a phase and I put it down to a growth spurt. Just keep trying if you can..maybe try a sippy cup with water in it? he's probably getting all he needs during the other 'quiet' feeds.

He is 7 now and stopped bf at 2.5. He never took a bottle either.

Thanks fliberty. It has been going on since 5 months now!! It seems like food is just not at the top of his priority list which leaves me looking like a flasher trying to force her poor baby to bf .
