How much spitting up is too much?

My 11 day old baby has just started spitting feeds back up in the last couple of days. He's a bit of a sleepy feeder, so I seem to spend hours getting him to finish a decent feed, only to see most of it come back up again.

He's putting on weight well - 9oz in 5 days last week - and is now back up over birth weight, but I'm aware that he's still quite small (was born at 37+3) and don't want him to miss out on feeds.

I'm going to try to feed him in a more upright position, as he does gulp feeds down if he's lying flat (sounds like a lot of air going down as well - very squeaky and grunty feeding). Anything else I should do to minimise it?

Short question is - how much spit up is normal, and how much should I worry about? He seems otherwise OK (apart from constant sleeping and a slightly gummy eye), but I don't want to miss something.

My baby had reflux and brought back ALOT of every feed but I was assured it was fine as long as he gained weight (just v messy!) He's v tall now and people assume he's older than he is so it obviously hasn't done him any harm. As your son is gaining weight I would try not to worry but maybe speak to your HV as there are things that can help.
