How much pre-bed milk should a 21mo get?

Morning

My 21mo DS is a big lad and LOVES his pre-bed milk. Trouble is he is wet most mornings, sometimes right through to mattress and that's even if I change his nappy at 10.30 before I go to bed.

DH usually makes him a big bottle about 7oz before bed which he demolishes.

I'm going to cut this down to see if it makes a difference but how much milk "should" a child of this age be drinking?

He still has milk in the morning and on his cereal but only water / weak juice in the daytime.

he used to be a great eater, has got much fussier as he's got older but still has a (fairly) balanced diet.

any thoughts?
thanks

I don't think there's any amount that's right or wrong really. My ds1 hasn't had bedtime milk since he was 14 months!
If the nappy is that bad, can you go up another size?

My DD, who is 2 in March, has 7oz morning and night. She loves her milk and is quite small so I will be keeping it for as long as possible!

Not sure what the guidelines are though. Are you using the biggest size nappies for his weight and using super dry ones? If you're not doint that already I think this would probably be better solution than cutting down his milk.

my dd (2.7) has 9oz before bed! her nappy is of course absolutely soaked in the morning.

I've actually upped the milk in the last 2 months from 6oz. I too was trying to cut back with a view to aiding dry nights but dd is not a great sleeper and in a desperate bid to get her to sleep longer I upped the milk. She still doesn't sleep through, but we're getting there ... slowly.

I already have him in size 5 but will upgrade to 5+ to see if that helps. i think he must have a huge bladder! can't really complain as he could be a professional sleeper but I always feel sorry for him all cold and wet in the morning.

at least I wont be malnourishing him if I cut the milk back a bit.

thanks

the minimum recommended from 1 year is around 350mls (approx 12oz) but this includes milk in cereal, other dairy products, etc. My lo's rarely had bedtime milk at that age - they occasionally have a small beaker of milk but not as much as 7oz. You can get size 5+ and size 6 nappies if he is within the weight given - the bigger the nappy the more absorbancy you get.

my 17 month old also has about 7 oz before bed and ends up soaked more often than not. That's about the only milk he has in a normal day though. (he often has yogurt, cheese, etc.)

My DD (18months) is in size 5+ and she's not a big girl - definitely go up a size or two!!
