I'm starting to get over a bout of mastitis and I'm having a good go nwith the pump as I can just about manage to stand the pain now, and stuff is coming out that looks like cheese. Is this normal? Has anyone else had cheese come out their boob?

Well, all I can say is this happens when you milk cows that have mastitis so I guess it's normal.

I've had mastitis but I never expressed so I couldn't tell you what came out. Didn't seem to bother DCs though, you could view it as very early BLW?

Oh, hope you feel better very soon, btw.

Mastitis is grim.

tabby - this is normal. Sometimes, ducts get blocked with fatty plugs of milk, and this is the cause of the inflammation/infection. Occasionally, these plugs unblock and the fatty stuff comes out.

The other possibility is that it is pus.

I was wondering whether it was pus but it's definately more yellow than green and it doesn't smell. I'm very relieved it's normal!

Thanks for the sympathy Cadelaide. I think you have to have had mastitis to appreciate how awful it is.
