cold milk?

OK, this may seem like a really stupid question , but I'd rather appear thick than do something wrong.

It's DS1's first sports day tomorrow afternoon. DS2 is 6 weeks old and is breastfed and as of yet has no particular routine so I'm not sure what time he will want feeding. What I'm planning on doing is expressing some milk to take in a cool bag to school with us so I don't have to get my baps out in front of all the other parents and teachers. Obviously the milk will have to be stored in the fridge until we go to school but will it be okay for such a young baby to have milk this cold, or should I get it out the fridge so it can warm up to room temp first?

Sorry to be so silly about this, but like I said, I'd rather look daft than make a mistake.

I'd just feed him. It's lovely to see a tiny baby feeding. Wear a baggy t-shirt and nobody will even notice.

oh yes, just feed him yourself. once you do it you will be fine and very proud! there will be lots of understanding mums there.

if you decide not to, i would just give the milk cold, especially on a hot day, it will be fine.

Wow, I didn't expect anybody to reply so quickly, i thought I was the only one inside on a day like this

I will just give him the cold milk, I'm not confident enough to feed him in front of so many people yet, especially since I haven't got the hang of being discreet must work on that!

You are so brave Misdee!! BTW, I've seen a picture of your DD on member profiles and apart from the dark eyes she is the spitting image of my niece! Beautiful!

like the others said i'd be inclined to just feed, but if your uncomfortable about it just give the cold milk (i assume you've tried a bottle of expressed before cos not all babies will take it and if he won't you'll end up with a fustrated screaming baby and stressed you who will then have to bf anyway)

madmarchhare · 27/06/2005 16:34

By the time you get there it will have have warmed up a bit in this heat anyaway.

Kelly1978 · 27/06/2005 16:41

When are you going to express it? If you are going to express it the same morning, you won't need to refrigerate it at all.

Maddison · 27/06/2005 23:30

We have given him a bottle of ebm before so we know there isn't a problem with him taking it from a bottle, however we tried earlier to give him cold milk but he wasn't too keen on it.

I am going to express from the next feed onwards, so i'll keep it in the fridge and take it out just before we go so if he does want a feed while we are at school it should be okay.

Thanks for all your advice everyone, it has been much appreciated

Can you take a big pashmina with you and feed him yourself if he won't take the milk cold?

chipmonkey · 28/06/2005 02:24

Hunker, in this weather?

hunkermunker · 28/06/2005 19:49

OK, a muslin
