How much milk for nursery?

ds3 will be starting nursery soon. He has just started solids, 6 months old. How much EBM do you think I will need to leave for him?

jess is 11 months, and when i leave her at nursery from 8-6 i leave 3 9oz bottles

Should add that he was prem. should only be 4 months old, weighs 16lb.

how much does he take on a "normal" day and add an extra feed just in case

He is bf when at home so hard to know how much he's drinking. When taking a bottle he won't take any more than 4oz from the bottle but will still have a bf afterwards! Think he may take more when I'm not there though.

I used to leave EBM for DS - as a guide, he'd have about 20oz in total when I left him at that age - I'd be away from him all day though (from 9-9) and feed him first thing in the morning and once in the night when I'd been away from him all day.

i would say at his age, 4/5 6oz bottles should do the trick

DS wasn't eating much when I first left him to go to work - and I did find that EBM filled him up more than formula filled up other babies his age, so you might not need as much as formula-fed babies take.

Yes, he's 14mo now though and only has a feed morning and evening (except if teething when he occasionally has another feed in the day).

I was wondering the same thing. Do you express at work or do it beofre and after?

Chipmonkey - how are you feeling about going back? I'm supposed to be going in July and I'm sat here going through our finances trying to figure if we can delay until September. I'm dreading it.

I expressed at work - had to, or my boobs would've burst! I used to express twice, but I was only at work one day and one afternoon/evening a week - I think if you're there more days, you might need to express three times, but maybe not. I kept the pump in the Avent out and about coolbag in the fridge between expressing - no need to bugger about washing and sterilisng it.

I actually enjoyed going back to work - I love my job, which helps, and I loved having a bit of predictability to my day - I was sure none of my colleagues would be sick on me or need their nappy changing just as I got my lunch

That's very helpful and glad to hear that going back wasn't too stressful. Do yopu not have to clean the pump between uses at work?

Er...your colleagues sound...lovely!

No, no need to wash the pump between uses - just keep it cold. Makes for chilly boobs at the beginning of expressing, but it's all part of the "fun"

Dophus, I'm dreading it but have no choice at the moment I think I'll be OK once there though, at least I was with the other two! I will be pumping twice a day at work, 3 times on my long day. Just call me Daisy! Hunker, do you think you'll tandem feed, you being such an Earth Mother and all?

My financecs are suggesting I don't either. I've always been a 'career woman' (whatever that means!'. So I'm very surprised to be dreading it so much. I love being at home with my son and can't imagine leaving him with anyone.

Me too and people in work who don't have children can't understand it at all. My SIL is expecting her first baby soon and she expressed surprise to my dh that I wasn't looking forward to it. I'm thinking "just you wait and see!"

My Ds is 7 months old and at nursery since 3.5 months. I send 3 * 5oz bottles to cover 9-5.30 day. Now that he is eating solids, he rarely finishes the bottles. Also I leave some frozen in the freezer there for emergencies. Suggest to leave some frozen milk in 2oz quantities so if baby is extra hungry they don't waste a full 5oz just to give them an extra oz or 2. HTH.
