i am due back to work in 3 weeks. do i have to give written notice that i am breastfeeding, and if so, why? what happens if i don't?

So far as I know - no. There is nothing in law to say your employer has to help you to continue to BF, apart from providing rest facilities (in my office - a chair!). They are encouraged to provide a separate room for you to express/feed, but don't have to. Talk to them now to see what can be arranged. When I went back to work after DD1 I thought I'd have to express in the loos, but my very un-mum friendly company did actually find me a spare room to use, which was a relief. Good luck!

DOh, I've just read the info on the link - yes, it does mention giving written notice, but it seems that is just so your employer can do a risk assessment. I guess it comes down to what you are expecting your employer to provide or change about your work when you return, due to your BF.
