but nothing more! is this normal - still bf loads in the day and through the night, never had formula

thanks

dd was exclusively bf but my period returned properly when she was only a couple of months old.

motomoto · 06/12/2009 14:08

was your first period a bit of a non-event, or as heavy as usual?

I exclusively bf both of mine. With dd my periods came back at about 7 weekd, but with ds I had nothing for 10 months or so, and they have gradually got more regular now he is 18 months (still bf)

Hi motomoto,

I was wondering exactly the same. My DD is 17 weeks and this morning my period came. I am EBF and I thought it would be a little while before my period came but it has not been the case. I have friends that thier period didn't came till around 7-8 months after giving birth.

Does it mean that I am going to have problems BF her? or Will I be able to carry on EBF her? I was a bit worried this morning when I realised thinking that maybe it was something else but for sure it is my period.

Sorry that I am not ery helpful but I though to use your message to add mine at the same time as it is the same subject. What I can say is enjoy it!!!! I wish mine wouldn't have come as yet

DD was exclusively BF til 5 mo (no formula). She still has 2 BFs a day (at 2.2yo) and I cut down from completely on demand at 2 years as I wanted to TTC. First period was when she was 22mo and was as you've described - brown, more spotting than bleeding for a day or two with some mild cramps. Then nothing until she was 2.1yo (so 3 months later) and they now seem to be back pretty much regularly and as they were before I had her. I think what you're describing is normal but I think it is very, very individual from what I've been able to find out (I was getting a bit desperate that I was never going to get my periods back!)

It was heavy like normal in my case.

Mareta - I had no problems bfing and still bf dd at 18 months.

Mareta · 06/12/2009 14:33

Thanks Besom, that is a relieve. I was a bit worried thinking that maybe it would cause some problems.

I hope to BF my DD as much as she wants as I am enjoying it a lot

You couldn't possibly be pregnant could you? Maybe implantation bleed type thing? I only ask because both my subsequent pregnancies had no preceeding period, I became pregnant on first ovulation an some people I know have had a slight bleed on implantation so putting the 2 together.....
Of course your body could be having a 'practice' or something.

I bf DD exclusively for six months then gradually introduced solids and eventually finished bf at around 14 months (she never had formula). My periods returned at eight months. The first two months were brownish - old blood, but more than just spotting - and then things returned to normal.

Mine didn't start for 16 months (fed dd until 2.5 years). Have one friend whose started after 6 weeks & one at 22 months. All have successfully fed without problem. My first one was very light but heavier the next month & a bit erratic too.
