I'm getting a bit confused as to how often I should be giving DS breastfeeds now that he is 8 months and on 3 meals a day.
I currently do 7ish full BF
SOLIDS at BREAKFAST (8ish)
10.30ish snacky BF before nap
SOLIDS at LUNCH (12ish)
2.30ish full BF (usually naps after)
SOLIDS AT TEA (5ish)
BEDTIME full BF (7ish)

WHat is anyone else still feeding at this stage doing? Just wondering specially as he wakes at 12 and 4 for a feed. First waking he is hungry, second I think it's more a drink, but not sure. When I tried to deny it him the other night he definitely still wanted it and needed it. Obviously the fact that he is still waking up twice to feed is not ideal...

Any advice or shared experiences very welcome

Thanks

My ds is coming up to 9 months has pretty much the same as yours in the day & I cosleep at night which means he's on off feeding all night too.

I just continue to feed on demand really , some days he feeds a bit more some less depending on if he has a cold & how distracted he is!

My DD is 7 1/2 months and on 3 meals and feeds very similarly - even down to the waking... Her schedule is:
7ish Full BF
7:30ish Breakfast solids
10ish Possible BF
12ish Lunch solids
3ish Full BF
5ish Dinner solids
6:30 Full BF
11ish Wakes for BF
4ish Wakes for BF

She was 3 months premature, but I was advised to wean on her actual age, not her corrected age, so I have done.
Sometimes she'll feed at other times too, but these are generally the times I can be sure about.

Can't really comment on when they're eating full meals, but we're doing BLW with DD and she's still breastfeeding 6-7 times a day (at a rough count) at 7 1/2 months.

If the midnight waking is bothering you, have you tried adding a dreamfeed back in when you go to bed. My DD's bad sleep recently is documented on the sleep threads , but adding a dreamfeed has at least cut the early waking. She would never take one when she was tiny, but she will now...

Thanks I will try a feed before I go to bed. Last night he woke at 8 and was in teething pain. Gave him some Nurofen and a top up feed and this may have resulted in him sleeping through...

Even with a dream feed a couple of hours earlier?

I feel your pain. DD was up for an hour at 3am and then again at 6:30...

lizmcfizz · 06/12/2009 17:51

NO I didn't do the dream feed. I will try that tonight. Let's hope for a good night tonight x

8 month old here and we feeding exactly the same as OP during the day and one feed at anywhere between 2 and 3am. If he wakes any earlier than 2 he gets a dummy shoved in his mouth and left to cry (a little bit) and he usually falls back asleep after a few minute.
He does then wake again about 6am for another feed but can usually go back to sleep until 7.30am.

Its knakering isnt it....massive sypathies....

Thanks for your support. Funny how the timings seem to be similar. Last night he woke at 8pm and I gave him nurofen and slept til 2am. Had full feed, totally needed it, then slept til 7ish. Can't complain at that. Maybe it can be cut to one full feed around 2 am, with a bit of gentle persuasion? I can cope with once a night but as I am going back to work soon, can't see me managing to function on more wakings than that. By the way.how much food are your little ones having. My DS has about half a weetabix and chews at toast. Approx small bowlful of solids and some kind of fruit/yoghurt and about same for tea. Maybe I should up his food somewhere but I do keep offering as much as he seems to want...
