Nipple Pain

rubyslippers · 01/12/2009 09:20

Been feeding DD for 8 weeks and yesterday/this morning have been getting nipple/areola pain in my right breast

it hurts when she is feeding - my breast doesn't hurt or feel hot it is my nipple area

her latch looks fine and she is feeding well but it is painful for me

have covered it in lansinoh but it is throbbing

any ideas - don't think it is mastitis

TIA

if it was thrush would it affect both breasts?

Is there a white spot on your nipple? If so it could be a milk blister.

Are you also sure there are no cracks in the nipple?

Thrush can affect only one breast so it could be and sounds like it could be to me but you will need to get it checked. Does your DD have white spots in her mouth which leave sore patches when rubbed?

Try going to a bF counsellor, as they should be able to say whether thrush and the best treatment is OTC anyway. The breastfeeding network have a useful leaflet on it.

Thrush is meant to hurt deep inside the breast and hurts after feeding. Not sure if that is what you are describing?

www.kellymom.com has fantastic info on all sorts of breast problems and might be helpful.

I agree about a BF counsellor, if you can find any nearby, I've been having problems for months, finally saw one at a new clinic, and it is all due to bad latching....what a simple solution!
