Weaning off bottle

DS is 17 months old and still has a bottle of formula before bed. I'd like to change this so he has a cup of milk whilst watching his programme 6.30 - 7 pm and then teeth and bed.

How do I wean off bottles. Do I just go for it. Further, he likes his bottle and snuggle time in bed. What could I do for snuggle time that's not a bottle. He just rips pages out of books. No time for them.

Further he's never taken to cows milk either so want to try introducing that again.

Thank you!

Hi have you tried mixing the formula with cows milk and gradually increasing the amount of cows milk?

My dd1 was a pest with it too. Would only drink it at room temp then changed to only straight out of the fridge.

Formula is expensive if he doesn't technically 'need' it anymore.

I worried about weaning off bottles but then dd left her bottle at my sisters house and refused a different sort.

That was at about 19 mo i think. She now has no milk at all though..

ps buy some board books!

We weaned DS off the bottle a couple of weeks ago on his 1st birthday (I am a stickler for details - only joking, it was just DH and I were both hom to try the new routine!)

What we did was give him a cup of milk before his bath and he drank some, but not lots (he used to have 8oz in a bottle, now its 2-5oz in a cup). Then we just read stories with the lights down and then cuddle and into bed. The first night he cried for 30 mins on/off and we sat with him till he went to sleep, the second night was the same, 3rd he cried on/off for 20 mins and went to sleep by himself and the 4th he cried for 1 minute. Now he smiles!!

It was a tough couple of days but its done now and DS doesn't seem to miss his bottle anymore.

I'm not sure about the cows milk / formula transistion. FWIW we tried mixing it gradually - i.e. 3oz cows/5oz formula and then 4/4 etc but DS was really sick. We then moved straight to cows milk and he was fine.

HTH!

No advice, sorry, we're in the same boat. DD is 15 months, wolfs down a 9oz bottle of cows' milk before bed (after teeth cleaning) and then wakes again later on and wants more! I can see how to try to switch her to cup for the earlier feed, but worry about her teeth after having the second bottle feed, and also can't see how we give her more milk in a darkened room out of a cup without terrible spillage.

Anyway, have posted before and got good advice before about the second feed, just saying that we're trying to do this transition too... Good luck!

Um, we're still going at 2.5! DD loves her bottles, hates those spouty type in between teats. It's not that she doesn't drink from a cup during the day but she loves bottles at night and in the morning, and also we can't keep her still enough to use a cup. It's mainly laziness on our part, but I figure it makes her happy and not doing any harm so why stress?
