Staydown or Comfort?

Having weight gain issues in an 11 week old and formula top ups came straight back up.

Told to try a denser formula for colic or reflux. Have picked up both SMA Staydown (for colic) and C&G Comfort (reflux). Have had mixed opinions on whether it's reflux or colic or either from HVs and GP but they seem to agree a denser formula might help. So it's my choice which.

Saw anti Staydown posts on other sites - querying use of corn starch and bemoaning complex preparation processes - so started with Comfort. Having a nightmare though as it clogs the teat (was using 2 teat) and poor little one gets very frustrated. Can't find variflow locally and dont want to go too fast flowing as have heard that can contribute to breast refusal.

Any tips gratefully received! Thanks!

What is the issue with your baby that made you try Staydown or comfort?

no idea about staydown, but comfort milk is very very thick so you'll need a faster teat. It did help DS's colic, but I wouldn't use it again I don't think...

be warned, the nappies are pure evil as well - explosive curry-like poo is normal for C&G comfort.

What is collic? I always understood it was a euphemism for a miserable baby!

Reflux has the following symptoms:
Arching back after feeding
Vomit post feed
Frequent feeds
lots and lots of crying baby

Can be prescribed Gaviscon from GP and on and on....lots of meds available.
