milk caught in breast shells

Hi

Another novice question from me I'm afraid! I leak quite a lot from the non-feeding breast during each feed and have realised that, during a day, I can collect 2 - 3 oz of milk just from this leakage. DP has started giving DD a bottle of expressed milk each day so I'd like to know if there is a reason why I can't decant all of the milk I'm collecting in the shells into a bottle which I keep in the fridge and which DP can then use in the evening. The instructions which came with the shells say that you can't use the milk collected - is this because there are air holes in the shells which mean that they can't ever be sterile? It would save the faff of expressing if I could use this milk.

TIA

Murtette

Yes that's what the breast shells are for. Just ensure you clean and sterilise them at the end of the day.

i bet this is a foremilk/hindmilk thing!! It's not that clearcut, and for one feed a day i doubt it's a big deal

Huh? Not being able to use the milk is a load of poo. My box of shells had 2 pairs in, one with holes to let your nipples breathe in cases of mangled nipple and one pair without holes for collecting. I was too lazy to remember to sterilise and collect though so they are languishing pretty much unused You want them SPB?

StealthPolarBear · 24/11/2009 17:39

if i get round to using my own then I might thanks, have them as a spare pair
Mine have holes in them but I still used them for collecting - I just had to remember to be careful when standing up
Didn't feed DS this morning so DD has been having milk showers all day, she gets such a funny look on her face

Dd loves milk showers She pulls off on purpose and bathes in it while giggling at me. Very cute but not so cute in public!
